PRICING
We are trying to keep prices as low as possible but need to generate some income in order to underwrite new projects. The example below shows costs (in US dollars) for producing 200 copies of Kojak (424 pp. 7x10") in December 2000.
Estimation of other production costs, excluding writing and editing:
Total costs of $3555 mean $17.78 per book, with a break-even point at 127 sold copies at $28 per book. Possible surplus on the remaining 73 copies would be $2044 if all 200 books were sold. In that case, $2044 would have to be divided between [i] recovering loss of interest on invested capital; [ii] labour costs for writing and editing copy; [iii] underwriting new MMMSP projects. The margins are not huge! So please buy. The more we sell, the more we can invest in new projects. Maybe well even be able to take on someone to help with editing, page laying and administration but then we really will have to sell loads of books. We doubt well ever get to the stage of being able to actually pay authors for their labour!
